Leggings are the new pants. And they have been since jeannings (denim-styled leggings) last year. Although leggings are certainly not a new fad, they are about to be re-created for spring 2010 fashion trends. Creative options for leggings are about to become a lot more!
Last year was the year of denim style leggings and this year, there are going to be more legging styles than to even count.
Here are a few styles to grab onto for the spring.
Heavy Print Leggings Make a Statement
Bold, heavy print leggings are the going to be a fashion admirer's best friend while the weather is still too cold for shorts but cold enough to still look amazingly hip in these heavy print leggings. Consider these leggings an in-between seasons essential.
Many of the heavy print leggings are youthful, so style them casually. Contrast them with white keds or solid colored flats. The key to complementing these leggings is having the focus be all about them, that means choosing a top that's not too busy. The great thing about this style is that it's easy to replicate at home with a cheap pair of leggings from Target. All that is needed is a pair of fabric sheers, fabric chalk and a bit of creativity. Designer department stores like Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman are making some great cut out leggings too.
Cut out leggings are best in solid prints so that the effect is not minimized by other busy elements. If the cut outs are not too immodest, they can be worn lots of different ways- with heels or flats.
Try to find a top that echoes a similar geometric feel without going over board. A top with an interesting square neckline or with a revealing back would make a sexy evening look.
Slit Side Leggings Revive Classic Punk Look
These are the hottest kinds of leggings for spring. They're a classic revived punk look. Like cut outs, slit side leggings are another leg trend that can be created at home with fabric sheers.
Style them in a way that reflects their 80s origin. The peek-a-boo denim trend or a leather jacket would go quite nicely. If it's too warm, try a vintage t-shirt with a favorite 80s icon and a pair of Chuck Taylors.

Whether they are outlandishly sequin, like a dancer's costume or subtle, smaller sequences that make legs glow, opt for whichever legging achieves the desired look. The one thing that's certain is that the explosive nature of these leggings makes them ideal for going-out or evening outfits.
Silence and Noise makes a great sequin legging that is available online through Urban Outfitters. The sequins are pieced-style and look more wet or metallic than sequins. Style with another feminine element like a big bow that resembles bunny ears, an accessory trend for this spring.
Body Contouring Leggings are the Most Flattering Legging
Body contouring leggings help direct eyes towards flattering parts of the body while minimizing the least flattering portions. Some of them have leather trim.
These are the newest, smoothest kind of leggings that many designer department stores are picking up. The contour element has a high-end feel while still being as comfortable as regular leggings.
